River Oaks

River Oaks District, Houston · Proposed 2017

A proposed Equinox Hotel for the second phase of Houston's River Oaks District, developed by OliverMcMillan. A glass tower lifted over a planted timber podium, 214 rooms above 70 residences, with a restaurant at street level. The arrival does the early work, signage, landscape, and a canopy that reads as an address before it reads as a lobby.

Inside, Roman and Williams set warm wood, paper light, and deep color against the tower's discipline. A bar and a restaurant built for the city, and rooms finished in marble and reeded glass.

The building keeps its order and the interior breaks it on purpose, hard glass outside, soft hand inside. The hotel was meant to give Houston a club, a table, and a room under one roof.
